Our Ironic Origins

A Story Almost Too Silly To Be True

In the midst of making their first short film, our founders, Alex and Brian, decided to commiserate in a way both knew was ill-advised... At a bar over a "few" drinks.

Appreciating how absurd it was to be drinking together knowing they both struggled with alcohol use, they embraced it and discussed the humor and genuine humanity of the situation. That's when Brian said, "This would make a great short film!"

Little did they know that, in doing so, they would uncover parallel histories of substance misuse and trauma, as well as a mutual ability to connect vulnerably, which would lead to an idea that would alter the course of addiction recovery and mental health treatment forever.

Bonding over their shared struggles as well as their love of movies, they recognized how films had emotionally shaped who they'd been throughout their own lives. Movies magically allowed them to feel seen, accepted, and hopeful for who they were, momentarily ignoring the regular shame and isolation they felt in their day to day lives.

That's when it hit them! Instead of using movies to help people escape their lives, they could make movies that encourage growth, and help people face their struggles with love and compassion.

They envisioned a growing collection of premium, entertaining short films that could help all people feel understood, less alone, and empowered - turning movies into approachable and captivating tools to be enjoyed on our own, with family, or even in therapy and education.

Once they recognized the power of this idea - realizing it was something they desired for themselves and their loved ones during the toughest of times - their mission was revealed.
